See Hear

Here are some videos of this and that.

The Actual Trio with Dan Seamans and John Hanes played at Luna Cafe’s “Nebraska Monday” series, curated by Ross Hammond, on May 19th, 2014. Charles Smith was nice enough to film it and make it available to us.

John Hanes and I played at Moe’s Books in Berkeley for the release of Thomas Pynchon’s “Against The Day”. I had set some of Pynchon’s song lyrics, sprikled throughout his books, to little ditties, and was planning to play them and some music by Thelonious Monk (who provided the new novel with an epigraph) and ORnette Coleman, who figures in Pynchon’s V, kinda. We started playing Monk’s Dream at it lasted a half hour. When it was over, it seemed utterly magical. Here’s the first five minutes.

Here’s Ben Goldberg, Trevor Dunn, and myself playing at the old Yoshi’s on Claremont, in Oakland. This video was shot by Graham Connah.

And of course, T.J. Kirk:

And just for the history buffs: the first band I formed in California, circa 1991, Planet Good. What a band: me and Joe Karten, trumpet; Jessica Jones, sax; Trevor Dunn, bass, and Scott Amendola, drums! This was shot at Flipside Freddie’s Friday afternoon series at the Paradise Lounge in San Francisco, by Graham Connah.
